Green Driving Tips

For every 3 pounds that your tires are below their recommended
pressure, your fuel economy drops 1%, reports the American Council
for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

A synthetic motor oil can improve fuel efficiency quite a bit.
You can potentially realize a 5% to 10% gain by switching to a synthetic motor oil such as Mobil 1.

The gas mileage difference for reducing speed to 60 mph from 80 mph is going to be in the 15% range.

Combine trips and try to avoid rush hour because of the stop and go nature of traffic. Forget warming up: Today’s cars don’t need to. Idling for more than 10 seconds wastes more gas than is needed for startup. Overall, Americans idle away 2.9 billion gallons of gas a year, worth around $78.2 billion.

Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds and by 5 percent around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money.

While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph.
